Emergency response studies have included ecological assessments of fuel oil spills, acid leak incidents affecting sensitive habitats, accidental discharge of liquid cement to a major watercourse, leaks from refinery sites and mobilisation of silts and sediments from construction sites into surrounding habitats.
- Post-mortem studies on a range of organisms to determine likely causes of death. Studies have included parasitological examinations, gut content analyses and tissue sampling for toxicological assessment
- Determination of dates of failure of biocide/antifouling biocide treatment systems based on presence and development of organisms.
- Identification of the causes of failures at a paper mill (arising from slime-forming bacteria) by using remains of invertebrate organisms to trace back through the mill to individual deep boreholes that had become contaminated by surface watercourses
